What Is a Lucky 15 Bet?

A Lucky 15 is a multiple bet comprising 15 individual wagers on four selections:

Total stake (win-only) = 15 × unit stake Total stake (each-way) = 30 × unit stake

Because it covers every combination of four selections, a Lucky 15 guarantees a return—even if only one selection wins—making it a powerful tool for both seasoned matched-bettors and newcomers alike.

How It Works: Step-by-Step Guide

Our betting calculator is built with clarity and simplicity at its heart, so you can go from data entry to insight in seconds. Here’s how it works:

Enter Your Unit Stake
Type the amount you wish to risk on each leg (singles, doubles, trebles, accumulator). For instance, a £1 stake per bet means a £15 total investment on a win-only Lucky 15.
Choose Each-Way or Win-Only
Win-Only: Covers 15 bets. Each-Way: Covers 30 bets (15 win bets + 15 place bets). Place bets pay out at a fraction (e.g. ¼, ⅕) of your win odds if selections finish in a paying position.
Select Odds Format
Pick Decimal, Fractional, or American. Enter your bookmaker odds accordingly: Decimal e.g. 3.50 Fractional e.g. 5/2 American e.g. +350 or –120
Input Your Four Selections
For each selection, provide: Odds (in your chosen format) Place Term (if each-way; e.g. 1/4, 1/5, … up to 1/8) Rule 4 Deduction (5p–90p in 5p increments, or none) Result: Won, Placed, Dead Heat, Lost, or Void
Rule 4 Explained
If a runner is withdrawn before the off, bookmakers apply a Rule 4 deduction, reducing your effective odds. A “10p” Rule 4 shrinks the profit portion of decimal odds by 10 %.
Dead Heat Handling
Tie for first? Your stake is split equally among tied runners. Our calculator halves the profit on a two-way dead-heat win; you can model N-way ties similarly.
Define Your Bookmaker Bonuses
All Winners Bonus (%): Extra return when all four selections win. Default 10 %, but adjustable to your bookie’s offer. One Loser Bonus (%): Extra return if exactly three of four win. Default 5 %, user-defined up to 100 %. One Winner Bonus: Consolation boost when only one wins. Choose Double Odds, Treble Odds, Quadruple Odds or Quintuple Odds (default Double Odds).
Review Category Returns
The calculator breaks down returns by bet type: Singles, Doubles, Trebles, and Four-Fold Win vs Place returns (if each-way) Bonus amounts applied where conditions are met
See Your Totals
Total Stake: £15 (win-only) or £30 (each-way) × unit stake Total Return: Sum of all bet returns + applicable bonuses Total Profit: Total Return − Total Stake With a single glance, you know exactly where you stand.

Practical Example

You place a £1 each-way Lucky 15 on four horses with the following decimal odds: 3.0, 4.5, 5.0, 6.0; place terms at ¼; no Rule 4. After the race, your results are: Won, Placed, Lost, Won. You’ve set All Winners Bonus 10 % and One Loser Bonus 5 %; One Winner Bonus = Double Odds.

The calculator outputs:

  • Singles (Win): Returns from each winning leg (2 winners)
  • Singles (Place): Returns from each placing leg (3 placed in top 4)
  • Doubles, Trebles, Four-fold: Payouts only for combinations where all legs meet their win/place criteria
  • Bonuses: One Loser Bonus applied (3 wins + 1 loss)
  • Total Stake: £60 (30 bets at £1 each-way)
  • Total Return: £X
  • Total Profit: £X − £60

Popular Lucky 15 Bet Calculator FAQs

What’s the difference between a Lucky 15 and a standard accumulator?

A single four-fold accumulator is just one bet that pays only if all four selections win. A Lucky 15 covers that four-fold plus all the underlying singles, doubles and trebles—so you get some return even if only one or two selections win.

Each-way doubles your bets and covers both win and place outcomes. If a selection places but doesn’t win, you still receive a place return—potentially generating profit even when not all selections win.

Rule 4 reduces your profit on a horse that loses a field-mate before the off. For example, a 10p Rule 4 on 5.0 decimal odds produces effective odds of 1 + (5–1)×0.9 = 4.6. Always check for late withdrawals and adjust your stakes accordingly.

A void selection (non-runner) returns your stake on that leg and effectively reduces the combination by one. For example, a double with one void and one winner becomes a single on the winner.

In a dead-heat tie for first, your stake is divided equally among tied runners, then each portion is paid at the full odds. Oddsmart simplifies this by dividing the profit portion of the decimal odds by the number of tied runners.

No—bookmakers typically only apply Lucky 15 bonuses to the win part of each-way bets. Place returns are paid at standard place terms and are not bonused.

Our calculator allows you to select place terms individually for each selection—handy if you mix horse racing with greyhound or other sports markets with varying place configurations.

If your Total Return is less than your Total Stake, the Profit cell will show a negative figure (your net loss). Use this information to refine your strategy—perhaps lowering stakes or changing which promotions you target.
